Laughs and cash raised for Solihull charity

A FEW laughs and £3,000 were raised at a charity comedy night for Age UK Solihull.

Up-and-coming comedians, Simon Wozniak, Vinnie Townhill, Hannah Sylvester, and The Boys From The All Night Chemist took to the stage at Shirley British Legion to help raise funds for the charity which supports older people in the borough.

The event was organised by Tim “Woody” Woodfield and Michelle Courtney, alongside Age UK Solihull Trustee, Nicky Robinson.

Ticket sales, donations and a raffle on the night, as well as match funding from storage supplier Spartan Direct brought the profits to £3,385.

The proceeds from the event will help Age UK Solihull to provide vital services, which include befriending and social clubs for older people who are lonely and isolated, digital skills training to help older people use smartphones, tablets and computers, and an Information and Advice line with highly trained Advisors who can help with a range of issues affecting older people, their families and carers.

Age UK Solihull’s digital marketing and fundraising manager, Rebecca Jacob, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the Comedy Night.

“Nicky, Tim and Michelle did a fantastic job organising the event, and the funds raised will go a long way to helping us to be here for around 10,000 older and vulnerable Solihull residents each year.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the event and helped raised such an incredible amount.”
