Laser pens attack landing planes at Birmingham Airport

A SPATE of laser pen attacks on aircraft landing at Birmingham Airport is being investigated.

There was been a number of laser attacks on flights landing at the airport between 9pm and midnight on in the past week.

West Midlands Police believe the lasers are coming from the Sheldon and Yardley area and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

The attacks have been described as ‘dangerous’ by the police.




A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said: “These attacks are disorientating for the pilot making it impossible for them to focus on the instrument panel.

“This is extremely dangerous as even a momentary loss of control can be crucial.


“Laser pen attacks are serious and will be investigated fully as they are very dangerous.

“A number of offences are also been committed.

“If the offenders are located and prosecuted they can end up with a hefty prison sentence.

“Aiming a laser pen at any aircraft, be it a police helicopter, air ambulance or commercial plane, can have disastrous consequences.”
