KNOWLE fun run has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to the uncertainty about planning and organising the event due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The annual event, organised by the Knowle and Dorridge Lions Club, has seen thousands of serious runners, fun runners and mini runners take part in a 5k course around the village in aid of local charities over the past 37 years.
At first this year’s event was delayed until September, when it was hoped all restrictions would be lifted.
Adrian Harris, presidents of the Knowle and Dorridge Lions, said: “After careful consideration of the situation with regard to Covid-19, the potential for ongoing restrictions, the uncertainty about planning and organising along side the spread of infections of the new Delta variant we have made the decision to cancel this year’s Fun Run and make next year the return to normal with our usual programme of events and activities.”
Last year the club replaced the Knowle Fun Run, Bike Ride and Festive Walk with a series of walks around Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath.
There was a Lions Festive Safari followed by a Scavenger Hunt and then the Easter Egg Hunt over the Easter holiday period. The proceeds from the Festive Safari went to the PTA’s of four local Junior Schools in Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath.
Adrian added: “We have added a link to our website so that you can still make donations to us to help our charitable work whilst we all wait for things to get back to some form of normality although this will clearly be different as covid is here to stay and we will still have to be careful about how we undertake our activities and fund raising.
“And some new ideas following our successful online Wine Tasting earlier this year we are planning the B93 Black Tie Charity Ball in October.”
