SILHILLIANS are being called on to help Knowle’s Marie Curie shop to be crowned one of the best in the region.

The High Street shop has been shortlisted for UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards for the West Midlands.

The winner will be decided by a public vote, which has now opened.

The Awards, run by the Charity Retail Association, are now in their second year and are a celebration of the impact that charity shops have within their local communities.

Rowan Saunders, retail manager of the Marie Curie shop in Knowle: said: “We’re thrilled that our Knowle shop has been shortlisted for the UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards.

“To be in the running for this award is a huge thank you to our dedicated team of volunteers and all the kind people who show us their support and give such fabulous donations.

“We’re thankful to every customer for their ongoing support which helps Marie Curie to continue to fund our hospices, nursing services across the UK and our free information and support line – available to anyone affected by death, dying and bereavement.”

More than 5,000 nominations were received this year and, as part of the process, people were asked to share why they were nominating their favourite shop.

When asked what makes the Knowle Marie Curie shop so special, members of the public said: “I’ve never seen a charity shop like it.

“So much care and effort goes into making the place run smoothly and there is always so much brilliant stock, displayed tastefully.

“I never go away without buying several items. The events they run are truly original and have something for everyone.”

Robin Osterley, chief executive of the Charity Retail Association, said: “Congratulations to all the shops that made the shortlist and thank you to everyone who made a nomination.

“The level of support the Awards continue to inspire highlights just how much charity shops mean to their local communities.

“We are now calling on the public to cast their votes and decide which shops will be crowned winners in 12 areas across the UK.”
