Knowle charity concert to host special choir which performed for Royal Wedding

KNOWLE Parish Church is to host a choir which performed on live TV in honour of the royal wedding for its annual charity concert – which also features home-grown talent.

On Friday (November 23), the Gosp-Ability choir will headline the event in aid of Christian relief charity, Tearfund.

Sandra Godley, an acclaimed Coventry gospel singer, assembled a special choir of 26 people who have overcome mental illness or physical disability.

Inspired by the work of Prince Harry’s ‘Heads Together’ campaign, the MOBO nominated singer launched the Gosp-Ability choir in March live on air at BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

She announced her choir would perform ahead of the Royal Wedding as a gift to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Since then, the group has been on a whirlwind journey performing live on BBC’s The One Show ahead of the wedding, and receiving a letter of support from Prince Harry himself.

And then they sang a specially written song at Windsor Guildhall on the day of the wedding (May 19).

Sax player and member of the concert’s organising team, Rog Marshall, will also be playing during the evening with his band including Abby Brant on keyboards, Pete Ariss on bass, Rob Oliver on guitar and Julian Crook on vocals.

And Mr Marshall says he is very pleased to welcome back for the third year in succession the band Vivo – known for their eclectic mix of rock and pop music, he says.

To complete the line-up for the evening there will be singers and musicians from Knowle Parish Church.

The evening is being sponsored by a Knowle couple who are very keen, long time supporters of the international charity based in Teddington, which this year celebrates its 50th year.

Tearfund works alongside churches and other local organisations in over 50 countries.

It helps communities overcome the worst effects of poverty and disasters.

The concert starts at 7.30pm with doors opening at 7pm.

Tickets are £12.00 each (including an interval drink) and are available from Rog Marshall 01564 771811 Mary Thorne 01564 770753 or Yvonne and Tony Abrahams on 0121 705 4362
