CELEBRATIONS were in order as the Knowle and Dorridge Lions Club marked another successful fundraising year.
The club raised nearly £50,000 in what it described as ‘a challenging year’ and the cheques were handed out during a presentation evening at the Greswolde Hotel in Knowle.
Most of the funds were raised through its Knowle Fun Run, Festive Walk and Heart of England Bike Ride, which see hundreds of residents run, walk and cycle around the countryside for selected charities.
The club’s former president Lion Bob Thurtle welcomed supporters and sponsors before handing over the cheques totalling £23,952 to SoLO Life Opportunities and the UK Sepsis Trust – the chosen charities for 2019.
The Lions retain some of the funds raised and donate these to other local and international causes.
New club president, Richard Buckley announced Solihull Hospital Charities and Clic Sargent as the club’s chosen partner charities for its up coming events starting with the Festive Walk over the Christmas period.
