KIND-HEARTED Silhillians are being called upon to bring some Christmas cheer to the elderly across the borough.
Following the success of last year where Morgan Parkes Recruitment joined forces with Age UK Solihull to help beat loneliness over Christmas by collecting gifts donated the duo have decided to do it all again this year.
The gifts will be handed out to Age UK Solihull’s members on the Volunteer Befriending Scheme at an invitation only Christmas lunch with any additional gifts distributed to housebound elderly people in the Solihull area.
The gifts, which should be new, in original packaging and suitable for an elderly person, don’t need to be expensive or elaborate, perhaps a box of biscuits, a hot water bottle, a jigsaw or some soap.
It can cost as much or as little as donaters can afford, but it will put a smile on someone’s face this Christmas – this could be the only Christmas present that some receive.
Donated gifts are being collected at regular intervals by the team at Morgan Parkes or can be dropped in to the Age UK Solihull team at Solihull Central Library, Chelmsley Wood Library or Morgan Parkes at the Blythe Valley Business Park office.
A team of volunteers from Age UK will be wrapping all the gifts – anyone who wants to help contact Sue Webb, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Age UK Solihull on 0121 704 7843.
The deadline for gifts is December 1 so there will be enough time for them to be wrapped and distributed in time for Christmas.
