Joyce launches 28th annual quiz for Macmillan Cancer Support

Solihull Editorial 18th Nov, 2024   0

SILHILLIANS are being called on to get their thinking caps at the ready as the annual fundraising quiz for Macmillan Cancer Support has been launched.

Joyce Rothschild began her record-breaking charity campaign after suffering an aggressive form of cancer almost 30 years ago.

Last year the quiz raised a mammoth £23,861 from entry fees and donations – taking the total to more than £275,058 in 27 years.

Joyce said: “I am very lucky and grateful to have so many loyal supporters who help to make this fundraising activity such an enormous success.”

Each year the quiz sees entrants take part from across Solihull, across the country and even some places abroad.

Joyce began her fund-boosting campaign after recovering from breast cancer when she was 40 and has continued to provide the financial aid to benefit the needs of cancer patients.

All the money comes from entry fees and donations made by the many people who readily take up the challenge set by Joyce, her husband, Mark and school friend Jasmi Roberts.

They compile and set the 100 questions for the quiz, each with a different theme every year – with this year’s theme being All About Three’.

For the first three years Joyce gave the Queen Elizabeth Hospital all of the proceeds as a thank you for the treatment that enabled her to recover from breast cancer.

A minimum donation of £3 is asked for to enter.

There is a chance of winning £35 for first prize for the most correct answers, and a prize draw takes place for all entries.

The closing date for entering will be January 8.
