BUDDING journalists and boxers got into the ring with VIP access for a BBC Sport Radio Punching Out Creativity.

Pupils from Cockshut Hill School went to the event where speakers from the creative media and boxing worlds came together to share their knowledge and discuss a range of topics.

The first event was hosted by BBC presenter and journalist Martin Dougan, who delved into his life journey, from his Glasgow wheelchair basketball career, to being a commentator for the Paralympics and a Newsround presenter.

Kal Sajad, a BBC Sport Journalist then shared valuable information with young people who are aspiring to become journalists.

Steve Bunce, a BBC Sport Broadcaster, podcaster, and boxing commentator then spoke about his career on well-known newspapers and how he has attended seven Olympic Games, covering sport in 30 different countries.

There was then a panel discussion with Team GB Coach Bob Dillon, Pro-boxer Shaka Thompson, Pro-fighter Sian O’Toole who all instilled determination, commitment and a message of ‘never stop following your dream because life gets in the way’ to the young people in attendance.

One of the Year 10 learners said: “This has really encouraged me to dig deeper into my own development, as I continue to develop my kick-boxing passion.”
