A SOLIHULL runner is lacing up his trainers in preparation to run three marathons in one month for the big hearted children’s charity Reach.
Birmingham-based Reach is on a mission to ensure ‘children with upper limb differences live life without limits’ and is backed by a host of top paralympians, including triathlete Claire Cashmore and taekwondo athlete Amy Truesdale.
Now Jason Smith from Sheldon will be doing his bit for the charity, tackling the Virtual London Marathon on October 3, the Manchester marathon on October 10 before finishing with the Liverpool marathon October 24.
Not content with that, he’ll also be doing all three carrying a giant Reach banner on each 26 miler.
His proud partner Tracey Smith, who works for Reach in the city, said: “I’m so proud of him – what a task – to run three marathons in a month, unbelievable.
“I couldn’t run half a marathon let alone three!”
She added that Jason was running for an important cause too.
“We had a get together at the Ackers Trust last Saturday, 31 families and 45 children jumping off the tower, doing the zipwire and tobogganing.
“It’s so good to get people together to raise awareness and funds for this charity and for the children to meet other kids like them so they don’t think they are different.”
Jason, a karate instructor, hit the headlines last October when he ran the Virtual London Marathon – again for Reach – just two weeks after he and Tracey had recovered from Covid-19.
Then he covered the 26 miles around the borough, being cheered on by wellwishers as he pounded the streets of Solihull.
This time round he’ll be hoping to raise even more money for Reach.
Jason has set up a Just Giving page with the modest target of raising £100, which he’s already smashed without breaking sweat.
He’s now hoping his efforts will raise much more.
