Jack's donation is the perfect pick me up for three local good causes

THREE charities directly supporting the Castle Bromwich community have been awarded a cash donation as part of Jack’s supermarket’s Jack’s Supports Scheme.

All three will receive £500 each to help fund their ongoing work within the community.

Jack’s Supermarket, on Timberley Lane, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes.

Usually, the charities selected would each receive £250, and voting units would be placed in store where shoppers could nominate one charity to receive an extra donation.

However, as voting in store closed due to social distancing measures, each selected charity will instead receive an increased donation of £500 to help those whose usual fundraising efforts may have been impacted by the pandemic.

The three winning charities are:

Age UK Birmingham, supporting older people through the loneliness of isolation.

Marston Green Cricket Club, a local grass roots cricket club.

Royal Star & Garter, a charity providing loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

Steve Wragg, chairman of Marston Green Cricket Club, said: “We were delighted to hear the news we’d received £500 from Jack’s Support Scheme to help us with our project of renewing our cricket practice net facility.

“We can’t wait for the installation works to begin soon and this money really helped us achieve our goal.”

Laura Cerrone, manager of Jack’s Castle Bromwich said: “The Jack’s Supports scheme has been running for a while now and it’s important to everyone at Jack’s to be able to give back to the local community who have always been so kind to us.

“As charity fundraising has been massively affected by the pandemic, we are delighted that we are able to offer more support to organisations than ever before.

““We strongly recommended anyone who’s considering applying for the next round to definitely get involved, we want to support as many local charities as possible, especially during such difficult times.”
