IT’S a task to test any wizard or witch – how to raise £1,298 by travelling 1,298 miles.

That’s the Harry Potter challenge facing pupils at St George and St Teresa Primary School in Bentley Heath, set by the Parents Teachers Association.

They calculated the distance from the Mill Lane school to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland – the cinematic home of Hogwarts – to the imaginary Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in Southern of France, and, abracadabra, came up with the spellbinding figure of 1,298 miles.

Framed within the school’s Get Active Over October, the virtual challenge can be achieved through a sponsored walk, cycle, run or scoot – or a combination of all four.

Co-chair of the PTA Tina Riley said: “The children have really got behind it and have already completed more than 250 miles in one week and raised over £800 to date. Birmingham Runner has also donated some sporting goodies as prizes for the children.”
