THE NEXT generation of workers across Solihull had the chance to find out more about local opportunities at the Solihull Apprenticeship Show.

More than 1,000 young people and their parents attended the event during National Apprentice Week, which ran from February 5 to 11 to find out the variety of career pathways young people can explore.

Employers and training providers across various sectors including construction, technology, financial, hospitality and health care were on hand at North Solihull Sports Centre to talk to visitors.

Exhibitors included Solihull College and University Centre, JLR, Graham, Severn Trent, Deloitte, DHL, Creative Alliance and Solihull Council.

Current apprentices shared their experiences with the visitors.

Councillor Ian Courts, leader of Solihull Council, said: “Tackling youth unemployment has always been one of our most important challenges and something that I’ve championed repeatedly.

“It is important to make young people aware of the opportunities on offer and an event like this is perfect to do just that.

“It was great that so many young people were able to learn about the opportunities offered by employers such as Tarmac and Balfour Beatty Vinci, as well as ourselves, of course.”

The Solihull Apprenticeship Show was organised by Solihull Careers Hub which is part of the Council’s Employment and Skills Team.

Solihull Careers Hub supports schools and colleges in delivering the best careers provision to help young people decide their next best steps.
