Inflatable challenge featuring top sporting stars raises £3,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital

THREE of Britain’s best-known sportsmen put their skills to the test in an inflatable charity challenge, raising £3,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Organised and hosted by Resorts World Birmingham, in association with the Icons of Football 2017 golf tournament, the event saw Paul Ince, Robbie Fowler and Darren Clarke kick and tee off in an attempt to hit a target to raise money for the charity.

Rather than aiming for the usual goal or pin, their challenge was a little harder, having to hit a floating roulette wheel, positioned on a large inflatable in the middle of Pendigo Lake. For every hit, Resorts World Birmingham made a donation to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Ian Bennett, Operations Director from Resorts World Birmingham explained: “The Icons of Football golf tournament is a legendary event, so when we heard it was coming to the Belfry we were really keen to get involved and what better way than in support of a fantastic local cause.

“We were very proud to welcome Paul, Robbie and Darren to our venue. They put on a great show for our visitors, successfully hitting the roulette wheel to secure a £3,000 donation from Resorts World Birmingham.”

Rest of the World team captain in the Icons of Football event, Darren Clarke added: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to put our skills to good use in order to raise money for such an invaluable medical facility – we hope that the donation from Resorts World Birmingham will help to support the recovery of children from all across the UK.”

Two local residents, who not only had the chance to see the stars in action, but also to take on the challenge themselves, were Michael Sohanta from Coventry and Susan Healy from Solihull, who won a competition run by the leisure and retail scheme of ‘Guess how many golf balls in the box’. The competition winners met the stars, and competed against each other to win an overnight stay in the luxury Genting hotel.
