Inclusive games event a success at Solihull leisure centre

THE week-long ‘Include Me Games’ at North Solihull Sports Centre was hailed a success.

The event was dedicated to promoting inclusivity within fitness and sports, and welcomed a wide range of local residents including members and non-members.

There were opportunities to take part in a range of activities from basketball to swimming, specifically designed to support people with physical disabilities.

Contract Activity and Wellbeing Manager, Emma Marshall, said: “We were extremely pleased to welcome people into the centre last week for this annual event which is the first one we have been able to do post-pandemic.

“The response and atmosphere around the centre were fantastic! We had people trying different sport activities for the very first time, with many who now feel the confidence to be able to continue doing them.”

Specialist sports partners such as the Warwickshire Bears Wheelchair Basketball Club were on hand throughout the week along with Solihull Wheels for All who hosted sessions on a range of adaptive bikes.

Alan Thompson, volunteer at Solihull Wheels 4 All said: “I joined Wheels 4 All because a friend from my cycling club has spina bifida, and I had to adjust her bike to ensure she could join us for our rides.

“I thought right, let’s do it for lots of other people and it is very fulfilling to come and see people smile.”
