AN OUTBREAK of vomiting and diarrhoea has closed a Smith’s Wood school for two days.
A letter has been sent to parents and carers of pupils at Smith’s Wood Academy warning them of the outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea over the last few days.
Katy Craig, the head of the academy, said: “You may be aware that over the last two days we have experienced unusually high levels of absence, much of which is related to sickness and diarrhoea (including a small number of cases of suspected norovirus).
“Following discussions with Public Health England I have made the decision to close the Academy for a brief period to enable a full deep clean and to allow students and staff to recover from any prevailing illness.”
The letter continued to say the Windward Way school will be closed on Wednesday (November 27) and Thursday (November 28) and will reopen on Monday (December 2) after a planned inset day on Friday (November 29).
It further advised children with symptoms should be kept at home until 48 hours after they are feeling better and should not mix with other children outside the home or visit local venues.
