MORE THAN 1,200 youngsters found out a little more about career opportunities at the Solihull Apprenticeship Show.

The event, held at North Solihull Sports Centre, saw young people and adults from across the borough attend to find out more about how apprenticeships work and discover the range of opportunities available in Solihull and the West Midlands.

There were stalls hosting some of the region’s biggest employers including Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, West Midlands Police and Taylor Wimpey.

Current apprentices were on hand to share their experiences and answer any questions for those looking to become apprentices themselves in the near future.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, deputy leader of Solihull Council, said: “Apprenticeships are great alternatives to further studies as young people can earn as they learn, stay close with their families, and reduce living costs.

“The Apprenticeship Show was a lively event where people across the borough were able to talk to employers and apprentices in person.

“Being able to seek out specific employers and learn about the experiences from current apprentices, made it a really meaningful event for those seeking future career opportunities in Solihull.”

The Mayor of Solihull, Coun Ken Meeson, said:“I was delighted to attend the Solihull Apprenticeship Show, which was a great opportunity for people to discover the value of apprenticeships.

“The centre was packed with visitors which kept all the exhibitors busy. Thanks to all the companies and organisations who took part and to staff who organised such a successful event.

“Offering on-the-job training and allowing people to earn as they learn, apprenticeships are a fantastic alternative to university – and it was encouraging to see so many in attendance and excited by the opportunities.”
