MORE than 1,500 women took part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Malvern Park – and the charity hopes to raise in the region of £100,000 from the event.
Women of all ages and abilities ran, walked and jogged around the 5k course from Malvern Park to Mell Square including 83-year-old Shirley Janes.
Shirley works full time at 608 veterinary practice and attends Hampton gym twice a week after she was put on Doc Spot, a programme designed to get people moving more, by her doctor.
The race was started by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Flo Nash.
Lorna Hartley, area event manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the participants, volunteers and supporters who helped make the event a success.
“Nearly 1,500 women turned Solihull pink in the help to beat cancer sooner and we’re hoping to raise £96,000 from the event.
“It was a great day with an amazing atmosphere and we can’t wait to be back in 2019.”
