A HISTORIC ladies choir has raised over £44,000 since its formation and has announced its latest charity performance.

The Chantarelle Ladies Choir was formed in 1988 and has supported numerous local charities and has provided entertainment for many of the borough’s residents.

The Breast Cancer Haven in Olton is the latest to receive a donation from the group – one worth over £1,300.

The choir announced it will be supporting Children’s cancer and leukemia research at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The group has resettled at St James the Great Church Hall, Church Road Shirley and meet every Wednesday morning at 9.30 during term time.

A group spokesperson said: “Chanterelle Ladies Choir has been an integral part of Solihull music for many years.

“There are approximately 25 ladies in the choir. We encourage social interaction through singing and fund raising.

“Since 1988 we have raised over £44,000 which has been greatly appreciated by the many local charities we have supported.

“A different charity is chosen each year. We perform two major concerts each year which are supported by either the mayor or deputy mayor.

“Besides our major fundraising concerts we also visit and perform in some residential homes providing entertainment for those unable to attend our concerts.

“We would like to welcome new members and will be holding an open morning on Wednesday May 2.

“Ladies are invited to come and sing during rehearsal and then join us for refreshments afterwards.”
