OLDER people are being offered a helping hand to get online and stay connected.
Age UK Solihull’s Digital Champion project aims to help those struggling with technology to book doctors appointments, order online shopping and carry out online banking as more services have gone ‘digital first’ following the Covid pandemic.
The training is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have some basic digital skills and would like to improve them.
And Age UK Solihull has a tablet loan scheme for those who do not have their own equipment.
The sessions are delivered by trained volunteer Digital Champions via group sessions as well as one-to-one home courses for those who cannot get to the groups.
The groups sessions are currently being run in Solihull, Knowle, Chelmsley Wood and Shirley.
Age UK Solihull’s digital project coordinator, Ashlee Young, said: “A lack of digital skills and access to technology means many older people in Solihull are missing out on essential services and the opportunity to connect with loved ones.
“The programme helps to ensure that those who want to get online are given the skills and training in order to do so.
“We’d encourage any older person in the Solihull borough who would like to get online to contact us to find out what digital support is available to them.
“We’re also looking for Digital Champion volunteers to deliver skills sessions to older people in their area – if you think you can help then please do get in touch.”
