HELP IS on hand for dementia patients and their loved ones in Knowle ahead of Dementia Action Week.

Unique Senior Care, in partnership with the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café, is offering a free dementia support event on May 13 at the Royal British Legion on Warwick Road.

The event, taking place between 10:30am and 12:30pm, will offer individuals and families affected by memory loss the chance to connect, ask questions, and access helpful advice.

The session is designed to offer practical advice and support to help both individuals with dementia and their caregivers live well with the condition.

Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with professionals in dementia care, join an informal workshop filled with practical tips on supporting someone with memory loss, and collect helpful resources to take away.

A number of organisations will also be there on the day, including Age UK, Carers Trust Solihull, the Alzheimer’s Society, Admiral Nurses, Solihull Council’s Adult Social Care team, and local social prescribers.

Dementia Action Week, which runs from May 19 to 25, is a national campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of dementia and encourage action to improve the lives of those affected.

This year’s theme focuses on the importance of diagnosis, highlighting how timely support can help people live as well as possible with dementia.

The campaign encourages individuals, families, and communities to come together to build a more dementia-friendly society.

Karen Wilkinson, community liaison at Unique Senior Care, said: “Supporting someone with memory loss or dementia can feel overwhelming at times, and we want families to know they’re not alone.

“Events like this, alongside the weekly Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café, offer a chance to find advice, connect with others, and feel part of a supportive community.

“Sometimes just having someone to talk to or pointing you towards the right help can make all the difference, and we’re here to help make that journey a little easier.”

For ongoing support, the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café meets every Tuesday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Dorridge Methodist Church.

The café provides a friendly space for people living with memory loss or dementia, as well as for family members and carers seeking advice, information, and social connection.

Visitors can meet others who understand, access practical support, and take part in activities designed to help people live well with dementia. In June, the café will celebrate its first anniversary, having supported dozens of families since opening.
