Help make Solihull's roads safer for all

Solihull Editorial 2nd Dec, 2023   0

SILHILLIANS are being called on to help make the borough’s roads and streets safer for all.

Solihull Council’s vulnerable road user group sees residents and council staff work together as a ‘critical friend’ to understand the particular needs and issues of safety for the most vulnerable road users, and how to make things safer for them.

The group, which the council say has ‘proved invaluable over the years’, has extended an invitation so more people can bring together a greater range of experiences and views to help further improve Solihull’s roads and streets for all its residents.

Councillor Ken Hawkins, cabinet member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “The council’s vulnerable road user group plays a vital role in ensuring that we are mindful of the needs of all our residents.

“Over the years they have given useful insights to help us think about the experiences and perspectives of a range of people including the blind and visually impaired, wheelchair users, elderly people and children.

“The group meets several times a year and works with us to shape public realm and highways improvement projects as well as good practice throughout the borough. If anyone feels that they have relevant experience that could be helpful – please get in touch with a view to joining the group.”

Residents with either lived experience of being a vulnerable road user – especially older people and people with disabilities – or who work in a field that could usefully contribute to improving street and highways safety for our residents, are welcome to apply to join the group.

For more or to join the group email Rob Wyatt at [email protected] explaining briefly why you would like to join and what experiences you think you could bring.
