THEY’RE small, spiky and an endangered species but now the people of Solihull can do their bit to help save hedgehogs.
Solihull Lodge resident Alison White is holding an open day at her hedgehog rescue, run from her own back garden.
“Currently we’re looking after 16 hedgehogs and the hope is to raise some money to continue our care,” said Alison, who’s been taking in sick and injured hedgehogs for three years.
“I love hedgehogs,” she said.
“Just before my 50th birthday we had a hedgehog visitor in the garden and we left some food out for it.
“Now we have five or six come every night, and we nurse and care for the sick ones too.
“My partner helps out silently but I have a team of volunteers too who come in and help out.”
Alison’s hedgehog event is this Saturday, August 21 from 10am to 4pm and there will be a tombola, raffle, booze raffle, lots of hedgehog handy crafts and other goodies.
It’s all happening at her home address at 29 Greenslade Road, Solihull Lodge, B90 1LY.
