Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Solihull

Solihull Editorial 5th Nov, 2021   0

PARTS OF Solihull suffered flooding after heavy rain hit the borough last weekend.

New Road was covered in water after a downpour on the Friday night and Saturday morning.

Solihull Council said it is not aware of any properties in the area flooding and believe it was limited to roads and drive ways.

A council spokesperson said: “The council’s standby team were called to the area and were on site within 50 minutes of being called.

“They helped with the clean-up of the surface water and managed to get the area clear as quickly as was possible.

“Initial evidence suggests the flooding was caused by problems with the Severn Trent sewer network.

“We have discussed this with Severn Trent and we are working collaboratively to understand what can be done to improve the situation for the future.

“The council is reaching out to residents in the area to offer advice and support.

“This includes information about additional measures, such as flood resilient doors, to limit the impact of future floods and give peace of mind.”
