Heart of England Singers prepare for Easter concert

Solihull Editorial 3rd Apr, 2017   0

THE HEART of England Singers are warming up their vocal chords ready for the Easter concert.

From 7.30pm on April 8 under the musical direction of Martin Bates, the singers will perform Haydn’s Creation in English edited by Michael Pilkington at Shirley Methodist hall on Stratford Road.

This piece was first published in 1800 and was the first score to be published in two languages both English and German and indeed it was intended that the country singing the work could chose the version that suited their ability the best.

There will be an orchestra led by Jeremy Blunt and the Soloists will be Susan Bates, Nicholas Drew, Themba Mvula and Judith Fisher.

The whole work reflects Haydn’s wonderment of the universe which he had a revelation of when he first saw the stars through a telescope.

The most much loved chorus is The Heavens Are Telling which is sometimes sung by choirs as an anthem for Eastertide.

Tickets cost £10 and are available by contacting Sue Lappin on 01675 464506.
