Heading out across Solihull for IT lessons

A DRIVE to ensure more people have access to digital skills has taken a big step forward thanks to a new mobile classroom.

Solihull College and University Centre has been heading out into the borough with a fully mobile classroom, designed to reach local people and help them with their IT skills, which has been funded by the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF).

The Local Skills Improvement Plan highlighted that many people don’t have access to basic learning facilities.

This mobile classroom comes with Wi-Fi and computers and helps people with getting online and learning basics like sending emails and tackling online research.

Community education programme manager, Katrina Griffin-Jones, said: “A lot of people don’t use computers in their work life and need a helping hand with learning the basics. Our mobile classroom can go into the heart of the local community and help people with exactly what they need.

“Sometimes it’s just getting online, setting up an email account or finding out about local events. People can then progress onto accredited courses in the future.”

A new Digital Skills course utilising the mobile classroom is starting at Elmwood Hub on April 30.
