Have your say on Council Tax Reduction Scheme

Sarah Mason 28th Nov, 2025   0

SOLIHULL Council is calling on residents to have their say on changes the Council Tax Reduction scheme for working age applicants in the borough.

Council Tax Reduction is a discount that helps people on low incomes pay their Council Tax bill.

The level of discount awarded is based on the income of the household.

In April, the Council introduced an income banded scheme for working age applicants that is easy and simple to apply for.

The authority is now proposing changes to the income banded scheme so that universal credit claimants get the maximum amount of support they are entitled to.

The proposed changes to income bands also help manage the overall cost of the scheme.

The changes to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme will affect working age households within Solihull, who will receive Council Tax Reduction from April 2026.

Pension age households will not see any change as the scheme to support this group is set out by Central Government.

When proposing changes to the scheme, the Council must consult on those changes.

Feedback from the consultation will help the Council to determine the next steps and make a final decision about next year’s scheme.

Residents can provide their views on the changes the Council is proposing by completing the survey on the council’s website.

The consultation will be open until 5pm on January 7.

For more or if anyone requires a different format, they should contact Solihull Connect on 0121 704 8200.
