Hairdresser Baz dedicates career to helping cancer sufferers

Solihull Editorial 1st Dec, 2016   0

AT THE tender age of just six years old, Baz Oldershaw lost his hair during invasive treatment for Leukaemia.

He won his battle and has dedicated his life to working with hair and wigs – helping create the perfect look for men and women facing up to losing their hair through their own battles with cancer or other health reasons.

Baz started his professional hairdresser training when he was just 17 and his career has seen him working at various leading local salons, working on the QE2 and owning his own business – Structures in Henley in Arden, which he set up in 1994.

Such was Baz’s dedication to his wig styling, he was attracting the attention of the media and local doctors and hospitals who would recommend him to patients facing hair loss.

Then, in 2006, Baz opened a new, smaller and more relaxed salon at Box Trees Art and Craft Centre in Hockley Heath – Baz Hair and Wigs Styling.

From his new salon he has helped create stunning wig styles for countless women who have lost their hair during their brave battles with cancer.

And to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the salon – and neighbouring Jane Patricia Wig Room – he invited many of them to join him for a special celebration of wigs, of life and of fighting cancer.

“It was a fabulous occasion and so special to have so many of my clients join me to celebrate my anniversary,” Baz told the Observer.

“My own cancer battle and hair loss at such an early age has led me to dedicate my life to helping people in the same situation and to have them with me on such a special occasion was an honour.

“I have had the pleasure of working with some truly inspirational people over the years and am honoured to have been able to help them.”

Anyone interested in Baz’s wigs and styling can contact him at the salon – 07768 164731 – or visit the website – http://www.bazoldershaw.co.uk.

He will also be doing a demonstration at Claverdon WI on February 7.
