Grimebusters trio at the call of Solihull residents

Solihull Editorial 5th Feb, 2020 Updated: 6th Feb, 2020   0

SOLIHULL Council has a new deep clean street care team- to give neglected patches a spring clean.

Nicknamed ‘the Grimebusters’, the team of three undertakes operations including litter picking, mechanical sweeping, jet washing of street furniture and signs, cutting back overhanging and obstructing vegetation.

Some residents say it comes after years of cuts and an era of government funding cuts to local authorities – which has effected all services, including street cleaning and grounds maintenance.

But Coun Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Member for environment, said: “I’m glad the Grimebusters are on the case. Our streets are some of the cleanest around, but the team are there to give a really deep clean when necessary.

“This means councillors and community group can bring hot-spots to the attention of the street care team, with residents ultimately the ones who will benefit. The great work of ‘the grimebusters’ is visible on streets like Alvis Walk, which is now far safer and cleaner.”

The council said that throughout 2020 the street care team will be liaising with councillors, community groups and our council officers to identify and prioritise the key areas of focus within each ward.

Residents wanting to let the council know about day to day street care issues should continue to use the Council’s contact centre or normal channels of reporting.
