Green Lane Playgroup handed donation for play equipment

CELEBRATIONS were the order of the day when a special educational needs nursery in Shirley was handed a donation.

Solihull Children’s Special Needs Association, often known as Green Lane Playgroup, was handed a cheque for around £1,340 from Wadsworths Solicitors.

The legal firm donated £20 for every new conveyancing matter, the legal side of buying or selling a property, opened during March.

The playgroup was formed in 1968 and supports pre-school children with special needs including Down’s Syndrome, cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairments, global developmental delay, epilepsy, autism and multi-sensory difficulties.

Although it receives some limited statutory funding, this doesn’t cover the playgroup’s essential running costs and it is therefore reliant on charitable donations and grants to supplement their fundraising efforts.

Jo Brown, chair of the playgroup’s trustees said: “The support from our local community has always been important to the running of Green Lane Playgroup and we are so appreciative of the very generous donation we have received from Wadsworths Solicitors.”

John Wadsworth added: “Wadsworths Solicitors are delighted and proud to have been involved in fundraising for Solihull Special Needs Playgroup.

“We pride ourselves on taking an active part in our local community and are therefore thrilled to be supporting such wonderful cause.”
