GREEN-FINGERED charity Gro-Organic CIC has been handed a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Chelmsley Wood based charity, which works with volunteers with mental health and disabilities to transform deprived plots of land into flourishing green spaces across the Midlands, has been bestowed the highest award a voluntary group can receive.

Gro Organic CIC has worked with thousands of youth offenders and women in refuge across the whole of the West Midlands and Coventry.

Gro Organic CIC chief operating officer Michael Forbes and Sarah Forbes, the charity’s chief executive, attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May, along with other recipients of this year’s award.

Michael said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the award and extremely pleased to have all our hard work recognised, we are over the moon and it pays tribute to all the hard work and dedication of all our volunteers.”

Gro Organic CIC is one of 281 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities.
