Golfers putt on big charity effort

Solihull Editorial 6th Jul, 2024   0

GOLFERS from businesses across the region came together to raise thousands of pounds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

For the third year running, a total of 22 teams, including Packington-based solicitors Meridian Private Client Solicitors Limited, played 18 holes at Olton Golf Club in Solihull. They raised £25,595.00 for the charity, which has its headquarters in Wythall and provides specialist care for sick children and their families.

Organised by the Any Excuse for Golf Society (AEFGS), all the proceeds raised came from team entry fees, an auction of prestigious items including signed sporting memorabilia and the sale of refreshments. The process was managed by a team of volunteers from the various businesses supporting and sponsoring the event.

Founder of the AEFGS and partner at Meridian Private Client, Mark Abrol, said: “As our society enters its 24th year, I’m proud that we can continue to support Acorns Children’s Hospice, helping to raise awareness of their vitally important care services.

“A huge thank you to our main sponsors Meridian Private Client Solicitors Limited, Henwood Court Financial Planning, No5 Barristers’ Chambers, Morgan and Company Solicitors and Probate Solicitors Limited (PSL) whose generosity has been hugely important and vital to the success of the event.

“We were excited to welcome Silhill Brewery and Mercia Distillery with their unique blend of drinks to the event for the first time this year and Nick Browning, photographer, captured the day’s events wonderfully once again.

“The team at Olton Golf Club also welcomed us warmly and looked after us fantastically and we look forward to working with them again next year.”

Chairman of trustees at Acorns Children’s Hospice, Mark Hopton, said: “Events such as these and the generosity of local businesses help us immensely meaning that we can continue to provide specialist, palliative care services to babies, children, young people and their families throughout the region.”
