PUPILS got hands on and explored the world of engineering and manufacturing with real-world challenges.

Lyndon School hosted two science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) days for year 7 and 9 pupils to find out more.

Year 9 pupils participated in a STEM workshop, delivered in partnership with In-Comm Training and funded by the Orlik family’s community engagement initiative. The session focused on teamwork, curiosity, and resilience as learners worked together to engineer a functioning conveyor belt.

The event not only encouraged collaboration but also provided career guidance, highlighting the different pathways into engineering and the opportunities available both locally and internationally.

Meanwhile, Year 7 learners took part in a separate STEM day funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering.

A total of 60 pupils worked in teams to design and build their own robotic arms, learning about mechatronics and how engineering is used in the medical industry.

They worked in small groups to build designs and gain insight into the world of robotics and automation.

Head of school, Syreeta Kapswara said: “We’re incredibly proud of our Year 9 learners for their dedication and problem-solving skills during the STEM workshop.

“This day was a fantastic way to inspire our learners about future careers in engineering and manufacturing, while also giving them hands-on experience that will serve them well in their future studies and careers.

“A big thank you to In-Comm Training and all involved for making this such a valuable experience for our learners.”
