Get involved in King coronation celebrations

STREET parties, lending a hand and communities coming together – these are just some of the events planned for the King’s coronation bank holiday weekend.

People across the UK and the Commonwealth will come together to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on May 6.

Solihull Council has released information on details of funding and deadlines for ways to get involved in the festivities.

Community groups and projectslooking to host an event can apply for funding through the National Lottery Awards for All programme.




Monies available for groups range from £300 up to £10,000.

The awards themselves don’t have a deadline but it can take up to 12 weeks from the point of application submission to receiving funding.


This means that the deadline for applications from community groups for the Coronation weekend is mid-February.

The Big Help Out on the extra Bank Holiday Monday, May 8 will give everyone the chance to get involved.

Groups organising events on the day, can register events and those looking to help out can find out details of projects and get in touch from March 20.

The Coronation Big Lunch on May 7 encourages communities to come together, celebrate their connections and get to know each other better.

This could be a traditional street party with road closures or a Street Meet where the road remains open,

Applications for street parties need to be handed to Solihull Council by March 24.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Leisure, Councillor Diane Howell, said: “Many of our residents will want to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and organise activities in their communities.

“Please make sure that you are up to speed with national and local information – there are lots of useful tips to help you prepare for a safe and enjoyable weekend.”
