General Election 2024: Meet the Birmingham Hodge Hill and Solihull North candidates - Caroline Clapper

Solihull Editorial 28th Jun, 2024   0

With nearly two decades of experience as a locally elected representative, and in that time holding multiple cabinet positions and portfolios, I am passionate about bringing positive change to our communities. I believe that everyone deserves a dedicated and passionate advocate fighting hard for their opportunities and protection.

If you put your faith in me, I have five main priorities for our area:

  1.  Health

I will fight to improve access to GPs and dentists in our communities. Additionally, I pledge to open a Community Diagnostic Centre for our constituency. This centre will help to reduce the pressure on GP practices and hospitals, allowing more patients to have their health issues addressed swiftly and effectively. All residents deserve timely and comprehensive healthcare, and I am committed to making that a reality.

  2. Economic Growth

Bringing investment into our area and improving job prospects is crucial. I will support both large and small businesses in any way possible to ensure our local economy thrives. By promoting apprenticeships and job opportunities, I aim to equip residents with the skills they need to succeed in today’s job market. This will includes working closely with educational institutions and businesses, to create clear pathways to employment, ensuring that everyone has the chance to build a prosperous future here in our community.

  3. Education

Having managed an education portfolio over recent years, I fully understand that good education is vital for social mobility. I will work to raise the standards in all the schools across our constituency. My goal is for all schools to offer a broad, future-proof curriculum and to ensure that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have the support they need in both mainstream and special schools. I believe in creating an inclusive educational environment, where every child is able to thrive and achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or abilities.

  4. Crime

Reducing crime and improving the visibility of our police is a priority for me. Knife crime, in particular, has become a significant concern in our area. Too many residents feel unsafe, and I will work hard to change that. By focusing on reducing knife crime and enhancing police presence, I aim to restore a sense of safety and security in our community. This will involve working closely with police and community groups, to develop effective strategies for crime prevention and ensure that our streets become safe for everyone.

  5. Community Well-being

Following the bankruptcy of the Labour-run Birmingham City Council, our area has experienced significant neglect. High council taxes, infrequent bin collections, rats on the streets, rubbish everywhere, uncut verges and other common areas have all been the dire consequence. This neglect of course affects how people feel about their neighbourhood. Residents should be able to feel proud of where they live and I will fight to ensure our community is well-maintained and cared for. This includes working on initiatives to improve public spaces, increase green areas, and ensure that our environment is clean and welcoming again.

If you, the constituents of Birmingham Hodge Hill and Solihull North, were to entrust me your vote, I will commit to work tirelessly to fulfil these five priorities for you.

You can be assured that I have the experience, the drive, determination and energy to be your local champion and bring positive change to your areas.

I believe that together, we can address these challenges and create a community where everyone can thrive and feel proud of where they live.

We did not hear back from Qasim Mohammed Esak the Liberal Democrats candidate, James Giles the Workers Party of Britain candidate, Imran Ali Khan the Green Party candidate or Jamie Pullin the Reform UK candidate before our deadline.
