Friends of Sheldon Park do their bit to prepare for Apple Day celebrations

STUDENTS, rangers and Friends of Sheldon Country Park played their part in ‘Helping Britain Blossom’ as they made preparations for the forthcoming Apple Day celebrations.
Volunteers and special guests offered a helping hand to prune many of the park’s apple trees – which helps to encourage growth by cutting away dead or overgrown branches.
The Apple Day festivities, which take place between 11am and 4pm on Wednesday, October 26, will include tours of the established and newly planted community orchards with opportunities for guests to try their hand at juicing.
A specially adapted bike, designed to use pedal power to help create smoothies, will also be on show while various games and children’s activities will be provided by the Real Junk Food Project.
