Free taster sessions offered in Solihull as Pickleball popularity surges

RESIDENTS in Solihull will have the opportunity to experience the world’s fastest-growing sport in celebration of World Pickleball Day.

Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre, managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council, are inviting the community to participate in free pickleball taster sessions.

The event is part of a nationwide initiative by Everyone Active, which is organising more than 50 free pickleball sessions across the country to mark the occasion.

Wayne Desmond, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “Pickleball is a fantastic sport that can be played by all ages and abilities, which is why people of all ages are falling in love with it. Our free sessions this Thursday are a perfect opportunity for anyone curious about the sport to give it a try.

“It’s not just fun – pickleball is also great exercise. Players can improve their fitness, coordination and balance while enjoying a social game. We’re excited to introduce more people in our community to this fast-growing sport.”

Coun Tony Dicicco, Solihull Council’s cabinet member for public health, added: “The pickleball taster sessions will be a great way for residents to find out more about the sport and see if it’s for them.

“I’m sure everyone taking part on Thursday will have a great Pickleball Day.”

At Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, the sessions will take place at 2pm and 3pm, while at North Solihull Sports Centre, the sessions will take place at 10am and 11am.

The upcoming free taster event will be led by an instructor and is suitable for both beginners and experienced players.

Pickleball, often described as a hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis, is played on a compact court roughly a third the size of a tennis court.

Players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a low net, typically in doubles or singles matches.
