Fountains celebrates the joy of true friendship and fraternity

FOUNTAINS care home had a blast celebrating Friendship Day with smiles all round as staff and residents reminisced about their old friendships and celebrated new ones made in the home over a special lunch.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between people, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Today, Friendship Day is celebrated in many countries across the globe and is a special occasion that encourages people to celebrate their friendships – old and new.

Staff and residents spent time putting together goody bags, which contained a variety of treats including home made vanilla cupcakes, coasters made by residents, and friendship cards for the many friends of the home to say thank you for all their friendship and support.

Staff members Lorraine Shannon and Esme Lloyd-Kelly went on the road to personally deliver the goody bags to the home’s community friends.

Sheila Smith who received one, along with her husband Dr Colin Harris, said: “Thank you so much for the lovely gift, you took me completely by surprise at the door! The cup cakes were delicious and all the goodies in the bag were lovely.”

Sonia Tenniswood, general manager at the home, said: “Everyone at Fountains care home was keen to get involved in the Friendship Day celebrations.

“I think it made everyone realise just how amazing it is to have good friends.”
