A RETIRED Marie Curie Solihull worker has written a book about her time at the charity – and proceeds will help fund patients’ care.
A special book launch of My Marie Curie Journey by Christine Murphy was held at Marie Curie Hospice West Midlands, Marsh Lane in Solihull on Tuesday February 25 with friends, supporters, volunteers and former colleagues.
They included the Mayor of Solihull, councillor Stuart Davis, Don Maclean, former Mayor of Solihull, comedian, broadcaster and pantomime dame Don Maclean, who wrote the foreword and author John Flanner MBE who endorsed the book.
Lady Kate Cotton, the widow of TV executive Sir Bill Cotton, Fiona Castle widow of the late TV presenter Roy Castle, and diet and fitness queen Rosemary Conley also contributed to the book.
Christine said, “It was a joyous occasion. For 14 years I worked for Marie Curie as a Fundraising Manager. In retirement it has been my wish to write a book about my time from 1992 – 2004.
“The book describes the journey from Marie Curie Memorial Foundation’s Warren Pearl House in the Warwick Road, Solihull, to the magnificent state-of-the art Marie Curie Hospice West Midlands just around the corner in Marsh Lane, Solihull.
“More importantly, it offered the opportunity to write about the wonderful team of people with whom I had the privilege of working during my Marie Curie years.”
Christine paid a special tribute to John Flanner saying: “Without John’s encouragement the book may never have been published.”
Motivational speaker John was diagnosed aged 19 with Leber’s Optic Atrophy, a hereditary condition from which there is no cure, and he was forced to face the reality of being permanently blind. His book Fear, Fun & Faith tells his own story, of a sports-mad Brummie who learned to live with unexpected disability.
My Marie Curie Journey by Christine Murphy is £9.99 and all proceeds will go to Marie Curie. To obtain a copy please contact Christine via email: [email protected] or by calling or texting her on: 07854854960.
