A FORMER RAF Aircraft Assistant’s dream came true on a visit to the Midland Air Museum in Coventry.
Ray, who lives at Fountains care home in Solihull, had always dreamed of sitting in a pilot’s seat has fulfilled this ambition during a group trip.
Ray, who served in the Royal Air Force during his younger years, worked diligently behind the scenes servicing gliders and planes at the Kenley, Surrey airfield.
Although he never had the chance to fly, he played a vital role in keeping aircraft ready and safe — a responsibility he carried with pride.
During the museum trip, surrounded by iconic aircraft and fellow enthusiasts, care home staff said Ray’s face lit up with joy as he was invited to sit in the cockpit of a vintage jet.
Louise Crooks, activity coordinator, said: “He was beaming. To see Ray finally take the pilot’s seat it was incredibly moving. He kept saying, ‘I never thought I’d sit here.’ It meant the world to him.”
