Football fan reaches finals of Match Attax World Championships

A SCHOOLBOY from Solihull is celebrating after finishing runner up against stiff competition in an international card trading championship.

Ben Thompson battled it out in a game of Match Attax against six other world finalists at the Grand Final of the 2017 Match Attax World Championships, which took place at the Chelsea vs Middlesbrough football game last month at Stamford Bridge.

The 12-year-old had earlier succeeded in winning the regional Leicester heat at the Match Attax Swap & Play Tour.

Ben said: “Collecting Match Attax has been my favourite hobby for a few years.

“To be able to reach the Match Attax World Championship final meant the world to me.

“My friends are really happy for me and hope to get involved next year”

Rod Pearson, marketing director for Topps – the makers of Match Attax – said: “We’d like to wish Ben a massive congratulations.

“Each year the competition becomes even tougher as it grows bigger and bigger.

“Ben proved his skill and knowledge of Match Attax to reach the final.

“We hope to see Ben return next year to go one step further and win the championship.”
