Fond farewell to Executive Headteacher of St Alphege Church of England Schools

IT WAS standing room only last week when staff, governors and guests gathered to say a very fond farewell to Mrs Jo Slough, the Executive Headteacher of St Alphege Church of England Schools.

Jo has retired after more than 25 years’ service to the schools.

She arrived in 1991 as Deputy Head of the Infants School, and became Headteacher on the retirement of Elaine Winterbottom. Ofsted inspections of the school in 2006 and 2009 both graded the school as Outstanding, commenting that, “A fundamental reason for the school’s exceptional success is that the headteacher’s inspirational leadership encourages staff to have the highest possible aspirations for themselves and the pupils. The headteacher’s highly ambitious vision for the school is manifest in the exciting, stimulating and vibrant learning environment”.

Jo was appointed Executive Headteacher over the Nursery, Infant and Junior Schools in 2010.

All of the above giving plenty of reasons to celebrate for all in attendance.

After much reminiscing and chatting, guests were entertained by a joint choir of past and present members of the schools’ Songsquad, under their music director Allison Taylor.

The schools’ caterers also put on a magnificent buffet, and both teachers and governors paid tribute to Jo’s passionate drive and commitment, her cheerfulness and enthusiasm.

Jo is now looking forward to travelling abroad with husband Pete and to getting involved in outdoor work as a volunteer.
