Florence celebrates 103rd birthday in style

Solihull Editorial 8th Jul, 2024   0

BALLOONS and banners were in order when a former land army girl marked her 103rd birthday.

Florence Taylor marked her special day in style with two parties – one with her family and another with her friends at Fountains Care Home in Shirley where she lives.

Florence was born and grew up in Walthamstow, London, and met her husband at school.

The couple married in September 1944.

During the Second World War Florence went into the land army and her husband was in the air force.

They were married for 60 years and had two daughters Hilary and Melanie.

Florence moved to Shirley after her husband died in 2005 and was in her mid-90s when she was the first resident to move into the Stratford Road care home when it opened in May 2020.

She has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
