Flooding across Solihull as heavy rain hits

PARTS OF Solihull suffered severe floods after heavy rain hit the borough.

The ford in Catherine-De-Barnes on Henwood Lane flooded and motorists attempted to make their way across it despite roadside indicators showing the water was more than three-foot deep.

Hampton in Arden, Cheswick Green and Dorridge were also affected by the floods.

A Solihull Council spokesperson said following the heavy rain on Thursday (November 14) it had to close six of the borough’s roads due to flooding.

They were Meriden Road in Hampton in Arden near Patrick’s Bridge, Tanworth Lane in Cheswick Green at the junction of Watery Lane, Bradnocks Marsh Lane in Earlswood, A452 Kenilworth Road in Hampton in Arden from Diddington Lane to Stonebridge Island, Peterbrook Road in Solihull Lodge, Aqueduct Road in Solihull Lodge and Gate Lane in Dorridge.

The council added: “Henwood Lane Ford was also affected and caught out a couple of drivers despite the depth indicator showing how deep the water was.

“As it is a Ford this is normal behaviour for this Lane to flood and drivers using this route should always be extra cautious.”
