COUNCILLORS in Solihull are set to meet digitally for the first time today (April 29), as the coronavirus pandemic prevents meetings being held at the council house.
A virtual planning committee meeting will be the first of our to take place without the borough’s members joining in-person.
Leader of Solihull Council, Councillor Ian Courts, said: “Our first “virtual” planning committee meeting will take place with residents able to listen in to proceedings from a link on our website. It will be archived in the webcast library as normal.
“Planning committee is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is an important council function and we need the process to be as transparent as possible.”
A spokesman for Solihull Council said residents who wish to make a representation to the planning committee would now have to send a written statement to be read out to councillors.
“Submissions must not exceed the permitted 3 minutes speaking time when read out,” the council added.
“In the event of more than one applicant, supporter or objector wishing to submit written representations, a spokesperson should be nominated who will submit written representations on behalf of all registered speakers.”
