HUNDREDS flocked to Solihull fire station to take a peek into the work that goes into keeping the borough safe.
There was plenty on offer during the open day there was plenty on offer including a smoky room experience, firefighter fitness test demonstrations and a road traffic collision rescue demonstration.
Crews were also joined by colleagues from across the borough, including West Midlands Ambulance Service, Wesr Midlands Police as well as businesses and charities from across the borough.
Among the crowds was the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa and Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West and Shirley who met with Chief Fire Officer, Simon Tuhill, to discuss the challenges currently faced by the Fire Service during the spell of exceptionally hot weather.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst said: “The Solihull Fire Station Open Day certainly didn’t disappoint. There were some brilliant displays and plenty for families to enjoy.
“It was a pleasure to meet, once again, Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill and discuss the pressures the recent heatwave has placed on the Fire Service and to thank him, and all those serving with West Midlands Fire Service, for everything they do to keep our communities safe.
“It was also great to see so many local residents turning out to support the event.”
