WEST MIDLANDS Counter-Terrorism police have been granted extra time to question a man and woman on suspicion of “Syria-related terrorism offences”.
The man and woman – aged 32 and 31 respectively – were arrested in Dover on Saturday December 7 and continue to be held in the West Midlands under terrorism legislation, the force say.
The man was arrested on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorism offences and funding/supporting terrorism. The woman was arrested on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorism offences. They are both being questioned at a police station in the West Midlands.
Police have said the “intelligence-led” arrests were not linked in “any way” to the London Bridge terror attack on November 29, and there was “no risk to the public”.
A seven-day extension means that detectives can continue to question the pair until Saturday (December 14).
