IT has been a real honour to, once again, be involved in the Solihull Together for Better Lives awards – see pages 6 and 7.
Not only has The Observer been the media partner for the awards, but I had the privilege of judging and presenting the Local Hero Award.
The nominees, finalists and winners of all the categories are an inspiration to all – going well over and above the call of duty to help those in need.
This was very much the case in the Local Hero category, which made judging a hard task indeed.
After much deliberation I couldn’t separate the finalists as they were all local heroes in their own right.
I chose Norma Todd for her valiant effort to beat loneliness in the elderly during her retirement and Peter Brown for his dedication to improving mental health services better in the borough.
Sajida Golby was Highly Commended for her efforts to bring parents with special needs children together and she and her team not only offers parents emotional and practical support but also give them a chance to speak to others in similar situations to them.
