It will be interesting to see what emerges from a new year public consultation on plans to close the post office in Mell Square and relocate it to WHSmith very close by.
In many other towns and cities, such a transition took place year ago – and the public has seemingly not been greatly inconvenienced.
But many people are creatures of habit and don’t like change.
Amid politics and union opposition, it’s important that the Post Office during the consultation demonstrates the economic case for the relocation.
But it is surely right when it says it is not immune from the effects of the internet on high streets across the country.
