NEWS from a leaked report that Solihull council’s bin collection contractors are regularly missing targets is worrying.
We report today that Amey, paid £10million a year by taxpayers, are missing more bin collections than is acceptable under targets previously agreed with the council.
That is the case with black bins and recycling waste as well as, worryingly, for special collections where people have a disability or mobility problems.
We note the council says it has set the benchmark high because of Amey’s ‘excellent performance’ over 10 years.
But standards will clearly have to be improved with the winter ahead.
Residents have also faced long delays in replacing split bins, due to faults attributed to manufacturing company MGB.
